Leitcode Valid Character Set
The Leitcode barcode symbology is used by the Deutsche Post AG (DHL) for mail routing. It is developed from Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode and uses a different checksum digit.
A Deutsche Post Leitcode symbol is a fixed length barcode and encodes 14 digits, 13 message data plus 1 check digit. Deutsche Post Leitcode barcode encodes numbers 0 through 9:
Leitcode Valid Character Set: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
Deutsche Post Leitcode Checksum Digit in Word
The Deutsche Post Leitcode barcode symbology uses the Mod 10 algorithm to calculate the checksum digit. The Word Barcode Add-in, provided by Onabrcode, automatically calculates the checksum for Deutsche Post Leitcode barcode symbology.
Leitcode Barcode Symbol Components
If encoding the numeric string "1234567890123" into a Leitcode symbol, it looks like the following image. The last digit "6" is the Check digit.

The physical structure of a Leitcode barcode symbology has the following five components from the left to right:
1. The first five digits represent the postal code, the position that "12345" take in the above image
2. The following three digits stand for the street code, the position that "678" take in the above image
3. Three digits stand for house number, the position that "901" take in the above image
4. Two digits are Product code, the position that "23" take in the above image
5. The last digit is the checksum digit, "6" takes the position in the above image
Encode data into Leitcode in Word
- Install Word Barcode add-in for your Word
- Open Word and go to the Barcode toolbar->Add Ins tab
- Open the Bar code Panel and select the Leitcode from the barcode type list
- Enter 13 message data into the data box
- Configure barcode properties as your requirements.
- Click Update button. A Leitcode Image display in Word!
